Now that’s a very valuable win! In their final friendly in Spain, Sparta defeated Zenit 2-0 after strikes by Dočkal and Juliš. Tomáš Koubek also contributed to the result, saving Criscito’s penalty.

After rather careful first twenty minutes Sparta scored first. Shatov brought down Juliš in the box and Bořek Dočkal converted the penalty without problems.

Shortly after that, Sparta could double the lead, as Čermák fired over the bar after a clever feed by Konaté from a counter attack. Zenit had to wait for their first big chance until the very end of the first half. Criscito’s shot from outside of the box was heading wide, but Javi Garcia redirected it and the ball hit the crossbar.

Criscito was in action early in the second half, too. Costa tackled Kokorin down in the penalty area, but Criscito was denied by Koubek, who saved his penalty kick.

Zenit were pressing hard in the second half. Mauricio hit the wall from a dangerous free kick and Koubek had to make a great save on Kokorin’s shot after Ivanovic’s cross from the right.

However, the score changed on the other side. Lodygin made two brilliant saves, but couldn’t reach Juliš’s header, which hit the empty net.

That seemed to be too much to handle for Zenit. Djordjevic was centimetres short of netting another cross from the right, but that was it for the Russians. Bořek Dočkal was close to adding his second of the night shortly before the fulltime whistle, but his amazing shot from a free kick only hit the crossbar.
