That’s it for the Europa League this season. After a 0-1 home loss to Crvena Zvezda, Sparta have been eliminated from the competition in the third qualifying round.

Michal Kadlec and Václav Kadlec returned to the line-up as well as Marc Janko, who replaced David Lafata up front.

However, the changes have not brought improvement to the team performance. Crvena Zvezda’s striker Boakye had two big chances in the beginning of the match, but failed on both occasions.

Then, after 19 minutes of play he netted a cross from the right side to give his team an important – and deciding – lead.

Sparta had trouble in the attack in the first half and did not create any goal chance. And it could have been even worse on the other side, as Jovičić just missed the goal from a quick break.

A number of good goal chances came in the second half, but improvement came too late for Sparta. Ben Chaim hit the post with his lovely shot from the left side, then Borjan tipped Lafata’s header to the crossbar minutes later.

Borjan then denied Lafata in a similar chance, while Frýdek and Karavaev failed from good shooting positions. Crvena Zvezda held on to the lead until the final whistle and advanced to the next round.
