Sparta managed to earn all the points even in the last match in the Europa League group stage, beating APOEL 3-1, even though they were a goal down after only six minutes of play.

Zdeněk Ščasný announced earlier that a couple of changes will be made and that was exactly what happened – Sparta started with a 3-5-2 formation, with Štěch, Holek, Konaté or Juliš in the starting line-up.

APOEL started the match the best way possible – Cavenaghi took advantage of Konaté’s back-pass and hit the top corner to give the home team the lead.

Sparta fought back, though – Dočkal’s low shot hit the post, and Juliš missed the goal from a breakaway. In the final minutes of the first half Štěch did a tremendous job for Sparta, saving Vander’s shot after a cross from the left.

Konaté missed in the first big chance of the second half, but it took Sparta a couple more minutes to level the score – Frýdek crossed the ball from the left and Juliš hit the net with a wonderful backheel.

David Lafata then came on the pitch, replacing Vácha, which was the game-deciding moment. First, he gave Sparta the lead, converting Konaté’s cross from the right, and then scored his second of the night in the final minutes to set the final score.

Sparta finished the group on the second spot, as Schalke won their match in Tripoli.
