No luck for Sparta in the first leg of the cup competition’s quarterfinals in Liberec. Even Sparta were in front after Konaté’s goal, Slovan managed to score two to record a home win.

Zdeněk Ščasný made a number of changes in the line-up again, and Ondřej Mazuch with Milan Kadlec played their first competition match for Sparta’s first team.

Luckassen had the first big opportunity to open the score, but he missed with his header after a nice cross from the right.

On the other side, Tiémoko Konaté only hit a defender with his shot, but finally got a reason to celebrate a couple of minutes later. Lukáš Vácha found him with a long pass from Sparta’s half, Konaté denied a defender and opened the score with a nice shot in between goalkeeper’s legs.

Even though only minutes remained until the halftime whistle, Slovan managed to level the score. Pokorný headed a cross towards the goal and Rabušic had an easy task netting it with a header.

Second half was not as entertaining as the first half, chances were not coming easily for both teams. Marek Bakoš was the only lucky striker, converting a cross from the right and scoring the game-winning goal ten minutes before the final whistle.

Sparta lost 1-2, but will have another chance in the second leg on March 30 at Letná.
