Sparta did a tremendous job tonight, beating Krasnodar 1-0 and making the first step towards advancing to the next round. Lukáš Juliš scored his second goal in the competition.

Juliš replaced David Lafata in the line-up, who has not recovered from an injury, and was not available, as well as Štěch (injury), Frýdek (suspended) and Šural (played for Liberec in the group stage).

Sparta presented themselves with a great performance, being the better team in the first half. Fatai missed the goal with his shot only minutes into the match, and Krejčí’s huge shot was saved by Dykan, Krasnodar’s goalkeeper.

Krasnodar were struggling to get close to Bičík, and when Granqvist scored from the very first attempt, the goal was ruled-out for offside.

Sparta were pressing hard in the second match as well. Fatai was a step short from netting Krejčí’s cross from the side, and after another cross Krasnodar’s defense had to clear the ball from the goal line.

Finally, after 64 minutes of play, Dočkal crossed the ball from the right and Lukáš Juliš headed it in to open the score.

Krasnodar then increased the pace, but still were struggling with the final phase. Wanderson’s shot was the only attempt on goal, but David Bičík was ready and made an important save. There was no luck for the Russians in the final moments either, and Sparta recorded a valuable win.
