Sparta suffered a 0-4 loss in their first Europa League clash with Rostov, who scored game-deciding goals in the first half. Sparta were down to ten men for an hour of play, after Konaté was sent-off.

Sparta played with the same line-up as in their last match against Žilina on the weekend, with Costa as the left back, Sáček in the centre and Juliš up front.

There was no shortage of action in the first half. After some chances the home side took the lead after fifteen minutes of play, when Mevlja headed it in after a corner kick.

Sparta slowly managed to get the pace back and Néstor was close to levelling the score, his shot bounced off the ground, but Medvedev managed to keep it away. However, in the 32nd minute, Konaté was booked for the second time and was sent-off.

Being one man short, it was too tough for Sparta to resist. Poloz and Noboa scored before the halftime whistle to give Rostov a comfortable lead.

Nothing really changed in the second half and Sparta had to defend for most of the time and chances kept on coming for Rostov. While Poloz had a hard time to hit the goal, Azmoun was more successful and added the fourth strike for the home side.

For having a theoretical chance in the second leg, Sparta have to score at least five goals at Letná.
