David Lafata will wear the captain armband at least until summer of 2018, having signed a one-year contract extension on Tuesday.

“I’m excited to continue playing for Sparta and I’m honored I was offered the extension. I’m happy to be a part of the club,” said the best striker of the Czech top division’s history.

David Lafata joined Sparta in January 2013, signing a 3,5-year deal, which was then extended until summer of 2017. The player, who has become the team captain after only 6 months after joining the club, now extended his contract once again.

“David has written a piece of history of the club. I’m extremely happy we can now extend the cooperation and work together for another season,” said the club’s general manager Adam Kotalík.

“After joining Sparta, I had said it used to be my dream to play here. Becoming older, I felt that the chance of moving to Sparta was smaller and smaller. The more I enjoy being here. I can promise to everyone, that I will do my best to make Sparta successful. More successful than until now,” the captain said.
