Borussia too strong for Sparta

It seemed like a tough job for Sparta on Tuesday night in Essen, as Borussia Dortmund dominated for most of the time and earned a well-deserved 3-1 win.

Borussia were keeping David Bičík in Sparta’s goal busy from the very beginning, and the goalkeeper had to make his first huge save of the night against Aubameyang’s chance only seven minutes into the match.

Borussia were enjoying the posession and Sparta had to focus on the defence. On the other side, Lukáš Mareček was denied by Bürki in Sparta’s first big chance of the match.

Then Aubameyang stepped up. First his header went over the bar after a magnificent cross by Mkhitaryan. Then he got closer and hit the bar with a nice shot from the edge of the box. And then, after a brilliant individual play by Gündogan, he hit the empty net to give the German side the lead.

However, Sparta managed to tie the match, as David Lafata beat Bürki early in the second and levelled the score.

It took Borussia fifteen minutes to get the lead back, as Aubameyang tried his luck with another shot from distance and gave Bičík no chance. Four minutes later, Mkhitaryan scored Borussia’s third from a rebound and set the final score.
