Bitter pill to swallow

This was a night we will want to forget as soon as possible. In the clash of the two top teams of the table, Sparta were fighting for their league title hopes, but lost 0-3 in a disappointing match.

Petr Jiráček started quite surprisingly as a left back, and Michal Ďuriš, on the other side, managed to recover from an injury that kept him out of play for a while.

However, Plzeň’s Ondřej Vaněk was the most important man of the beginning of the match. He failed in the first big chance, but when Jiráček brought down Petržela in the box, he converted a penalty without any problems.

Sparta were awarded a penalty as well a couple of minutes later after a foul on Krejčí, but Bořek Dočkal sent the ball high over the bar.

Viktoria focused mostly on defence in the second half, and were quite successful. Martin Frýdek missed the goal with a header, and Lukáš Juliš only hit Plzeň’s goalkeeper Kozáčik with his rebound after a nice volley by Dočkal.

And so it was the opposition to score. Krmenčík came on for Ďuriš in the second half, and scored twice from breakaways, when Sparta’s defence was wide open in a desperate effort to level the score. The match ended with a cruel result for the home side and hopes for championship title almost lost.
