Sparta are delighted to announce another contract extension from the training camp in Austria. Martin Frýdek extended his successful cooperation with Sparta until 2020.

25 years old is a Sparta homegrown player, wearing the famous kit as well as his father Martin, a Sparta legend, and his younger brother Christian, a promising Czech prospect.

“All I can say is that I’m excited. I’m happy that Sparta offered me the chance to extend and I hope I’ll have the chance to pay it back on the pitch. And that I’ll finally win the title here,” Martin believes.

Frýdek suffered a serious knee injury last season, which ruled him out for the most of the matches. However, he recovered faster than expected and actually made two league appearances at the end of the season.

“It was a serious injury, but I think I have returned in the same form. I want to prove this on the pitch now,” Frýdek says.

Injury – the one from the last season and all the previous ones – have not influenced his playing style. He’s still valuable for his toughness and aggressiveness, a true warrior.

“No matter how serious the injury is, it won’t change how you play on the pitch. If I was scared, too careful or thinking about not getting hurt again, there would be no reason to play at all,” Martin explains.

Thanks to his early recovery, he could start the pre-season training without any problems and in full force.

“We were gaining stamina in the first weeks, which was fine. I can’t say a bad things about the new coach, so we’ll see how well it goes in the future. A new coach is always an impuls for the team, the more when he brings so many people with him. Anyway, I can’t say it’s been a major change,” Frýdek says.

There’s a plenty of new faces in the squad as well as in the coaching staff, the competition among the players is bigger than it used to be in the past.

“Competition always helps you to get the best out of you. It’s great. The new boys brought some fresh air and it’s awesome that we need to work really hard to earn our spot on the team,” Martin said.

Martin Frýdek has made 97 appearances in the Czech top division, scoring four goals. From 2012 to 2015 he played for Slovan Liberec, but returned back to Letná after that.
